China Business 2008 Conference, St. Louis

October 3, 2008

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce & the St. Louis Regional Commerce & Growth Association (RCGA) held a conference in St. Louis yesterday, October 2, 2008, at the Ritz Carlton Ballroom to help promote trade with China. The highlight of the conference was a luncheon speech by the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Zhou Wenzhong.

I worked with Mr. Eric Schneider at the RCGA to arrange for Mr. Austin Tao, FASLA, to be part of a panel discussion at the conference on doing business in China. Austin Tao is a landscape architect, president of Austin Tao Landscape, Lawrence Group principal and heads our international team. Austin did a splendid job and dazzled everyone with a presentation showing color images of work we’ve done in China.

Faces in the crowd yesterday: Mr. Yan Li of the Missouri Department of Economic Development; Mr. Eric Schneider, director of public policy research at the RCGA; Mr. DickFleming, president & CEO of the RCGA; Ms. Li Fang, program director of the Confucius Institute at Webster University, St. Louis; Dr. Deborah Trott Pierce, director of the Center for International Education and Confucius Institute; Mr. Austin Tao, FASLA, president of Austin Tao Landscape; Mr. Rodney Crim, executive director of the St. Louis Development Corporation; and, of course, me!
