Have you ever used Baidu?

Or Acoona?

How about Sohu?

Yisou?

According to one source, these are a few of the most popular Chinese language search engines. A complete list of the “most popular” ones from that same source includes:

Baidu www.baidu.com
Acoona www.accoona.cn
Sohu www.sohu.com
Yisou www.yisou.com
Sogou www.sogou.com
Google China www.google.cn
Sina www.sina.com.cn
3721.com www.3721.com
Yahoo cn.yahoo.com
NetEase www.163.com

I was messing around on Baidu this evening, and I found a nice translation tool you might like to know about, especially if you are learning Chinese language. The tool is called Pinyin Annotator. The tool takes any Chinese characters and translates them into pinyin. This has been helpful to me. If I can get the pinyin, I can at least read the passage aloud, and I might even understand some of it.

Here’s an example of how it works. I pasted the following into the annotator,

I clicked on the “annotator” button, and here is the result I got,

Pretty cool, huh? There is a feature to have the characters translated into zhuyin (bopomofo), in addition to pinyin.

Pinyin Annotator is in beta, and user suggestions and comments are welcomed.
